Catalonia has become Spain's leading region for the development of battery energy storage projects, a technology that is playing an increasingly important role in providing flexibility to the electricity system and strengthening security of supply.

This is highlighted in a report broadcast by 3Cat, which focuses on the growing role of batteries, particularly in the industrial sector. Among those featured is Vector Energy, a CEEC member, which designs and assembles battery modules at its facility in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, competing with international manufacturers.

In the report, Iván Olivares, CEO of Vector Energy, explains that these solutions are already being deployed in critical infrastructure such as airports, hospitals and industrial facilities. He also points out that, while batteries may not necessarily reduce electricity prices, they can help minimise uncertainty in the energy market.
