The Catalan Energy Cluster celebrated this morning a new edition of the CEEC Business Lunch which was attended by the CEO of Endesa Catalunya, Enric Brazís. The general manager of the company has reviewed their situation in Catalonia, referring to some of the challenges facing the sector. "We need a model based on sharing value with the municipalities, wherever we carry out initiatives, the territory needs to be able to enjoy the benefits", he said referring to the "difficulties" the sector is going through to keep growing in renewables. Brazís also wanted to underscore Endesa's commitment to the decarbonisation of its entire generation park, which, according to him, will "advance to 2040 instead of 2050".

Brazís began his speech talking about the resources allocated to Catalonia by Endesa, where he emphasized the planned investment of 1,789 MEUR for the period 2024-2026. An investment focused on the distribution network with 951 MEUR, but also in the field of conventional generation (437) and renewables (350).

Following this, the head of Endesa in Catalonia talked about the challenges of the sector, focusing on the growth of renewables. "In Catalonia we are the densest community in the whole State and with more municipalities. This makes it very difficult for us to build new facilities without them having an impact on the territory", he commented. For this reason, Brazís believes that "we need a model based on sharing value with the municipalities, and that wherever we carry out initiatives, the territory should enjoy the benefits".

On the other hand, Brazís has pointed out to the need of increasing electricity demand to advance the energy transition and the goal of decarbonisation. Along with this, he talked about the plans for the development and digitization of the network to connect self-consumption, new generation parks, electric vehicle charging points and all the growing needs of the Catalan industry.

At the end of his speech, the head of Endesa in Catalonia also referred to the renewable generation targets for 2030, which in Catalonia reach 50%. In this respect, the head of Endesa has highlighted the entity's commitment to the decarbonisation of its generation park, which, as he has stated, they plan to "move forward to 2040 instead of 2050". Once his presentation was finished , the event continued with lunch and an a questions and answers session , in which attendees were able to address their questions to the speaker.

A unique opportunity for networking

With more than forty members from the sector, the day was also a good opportunity for cluster members to connect with relevant players in the sector and establish valuable connections.

To facilitate this, the cluster has had a prior networking activity, which started at 1:30 p.m., in which attendees were able to chat and generate new synergies with other representatives of companies and organizations in the sector.
