Estabanell, a company in the energy and telecommunications sectors based in Granollers, promotes the installation of four photovoltaic solar energy generation parks in the province of Tarragona. Specifically in the municipalities of Figuerola del Camp, Pla de Santa Maria, Catllar i Vinyols i els Arcs. The total investment expected to carry out the four 100% renewable generation projects is 12 million euros.  With these four plants, there are 14 projects that Estabanell has in public information in Catalonia and five with prior authorization.

The Catllar park is projected over an area of 7.6 hectares and will have an installed power of 5 MW, which will make it possible to generate 8,000 MWh in a year, that is to say, the equivalent of the annual consumption of approximately one third of the municipality The planned location is more than 2 kilometers from the urban core, which will allow it to be connected to the distribution network without the need to build supports with a high visual impact, such as electric towers, or deploy cable to bring the electricity to the final consumer With an expected investment of 3.5 million euros, the Estabanell project incorporates elements of naturalization such as the natural growth of a plant cover on the ground, made up of native plants, which favors the arrival of pollinating insects typical of the area, installation of a hunting fence that always allows the passage of small and medium native fauna, and the maintenance of the existing woody crops.

The projects planned in Figuerola del Camp and Pla de Santa Maria do not exceed 6 hectares of surface. The one in Figuerola del Camp, located in an area known as Els Olivars, will have an area of 6 hectares, that is to say, with 0.17% of the total area of the municipality. While that of Pla de Santa Maria, located in the Carpis area, will have 5.5 hectares, 0.24% of the municipal area. With the commissioning of these two facilities, 13,800 MWh will be produced, equivalent to the consumption of 4,600 homes.

Agrovoltaic park in Vinyols

Finally, Estabanell is promoting its first agrovoltaic park in Vinyols i els Arcs, of up to 3 MW and with an area of 9.9 hectares, representing 0.92% of the total area of the municipality. The total investment for this park, where the generation of 100% renewable energy and the cultivation of calçots will be combined, is 2.2 million euros. The 3 MW of power from this project, which will be located at Mas d'En Pou, will generate 5,800 MWh per year, which would be equivalent to the annual consumption of 1,933 homes.

According to Pere Borràs, Estabanell's director of generation, "the Mas d'En Pou solar plant is a good example of how we make sure to integrate our parks into the environment and adapt them to the reality of each territory, being compatible with livestock and agriculture. In this case, the land is within the calçot cultivation area and that is why the approach we are taking is that the soil located between the rows of plates is used to grow the native calçot».
