On 9 October 2025, the Catalonia Efficient Energy Cluster (CEEC) brought together companies and sector entities for a new edition of the Hydrogen Seminar, coinciding with the plenary meeting of the Hydrogen Working Group. The event focused on the real advances in renewable hydrogen production and use, featuring Patricio Gómez, Business Development Director at DH2 Energy, who presented the Hysencia project, one of the most prominent green hydrogen initiatives in Europe.

During his presentation, Patricio Gómez detailed Hysencia, a renewable hydrogen production plant located in Aragón, scheduled to begin construction in the fourth quarter of 2025. The project, which obtained integrated environmental authorisation in July 2024, prioritises on-site self-consumption with photovoltaic energy and includes a 10 MW grid connection for support.

With a 35 MW electrolysis capacity and 49 MWp photovoltaic capacity, Hysencia is positioned as one of the most advanced commercial green hydrogen projects on the continent. In addition, it was awarded in the first European Hydrogen Bank auction, financed by the European Union Innovation Fund and implemented by CINEA. Thanks to this award, it will receive a 0.48 €/kg incentive for renewable hydrogen produced over the first ten years of operation, with an estimated financial support of approximately €8 million.

Gómez also shared the trajectory of DH2 Energy, a company with a portfolio of over 10 GW of projects under development in Spain, Portugal, and Mexico, highlighting the sector’s main challenges: permitting procedures, hydrogen marketing and certification, and the need for public support to stimulate industrial demand.

The seminar opened with Teresa Navarro (INDOX) and Laia Balagué (CEEC) welcoming the participants and emphasising the role of the working group as a space for shared knowledge and the promotion of strategic projects in hydrogen and decarbonisation.

During the subsequent debate, group members analysed the current administrative challenges and proposed training actions to streamline permitting processes, as well as new lines of work for the 2026 activity plan, including a seminar on the PRIME platform and technical visits to reference installations in the sector.

As a conclusion, it was proposed to expand the scope of the Hydrogen Working Group under the name “Hydrogen and Renewable Gases”, with the aim of incorporating other energy vectors such as biomethane and thereby strengthening a comprehensive vision for the decarbonisation of Catalonia’s industrial fabric.

The next group meeting will take place on 20 November 2025, when the year’s activities will be reviewed and the 2026 work calendar will be defined.
