The Energy Efficiency Cluster of Catalonia (CEEC) has held a new edition of the CEEC Business Lunch 2025, an event that has become a key meeting point for the business community linked to innovation, competitiveness, and the energy transition. This year’s event featured Pedro Calef, CEO of EBRO EV Motors, who delivered the keynote speech “EBRO: the energy driving the new automotive industry”, focused on the transformation of the sector and the role of reindustrialisation in the future of electric mobility.
Calef outlined the profound technological and production changes taking place in the automotive industry, noting that today’s vehicle is an advanced technological platform, not a purely mechanical machine. In this context, he highlighted the importance of EBRO in the industrial revitalisation of Catalonia, with more than 1,000 direct employees and over 2,000 indirect employees, as well as the recovery of over 300,000 m² of the Zona Franca plant. The company currently produces around 100 vehicles per day and expects to exceed 15,000 vehicles manufactured by the end of the year.
During the presentation, Calef detailed the development of a new generation of vehicles based on production flexibility, sustainability, and high technology. Highlights include non-plug-in hybrids, plug-in hybrids with over 90 km of electric range, and the new S900, EBRO’s flagship model, which exceeds 140 km of range in 100% electric mode. Several additional 100% electric models will be introduced in the coming months.
The CEO of EBRO pointed out the main challenges facing the industry: maintaining competitiveness in a global market, boosting supplier relocalisation, accelerating sustainability to address climate change, and attracting technological talent by creating an innovative ecosystem. He also advocated for a shift in mindset in Europe that enables greater agility and execution capacity.
The event served as a meeting space for companies, institutions and professionals committed to innovation and the energy transition.
