The bonÀarea group has secured an award of 5MW of power for its Guissona plant in one of the latest Red Eléctrica auctions. The auction, which took place last December, is intended for the Active Demand Response service (SRAD) and will allow the food group to generate savings of more than 1.2 MEUR in 2024.
Magnus Commodites, a consultancy specializing in energy markets and a member of the CEEC, was in charge of advising the bonÀarea group during 2023 in the entire previous technical process within the state capacity market. "Normally when we go to the industry with these initiatives we always find resistance", said Felipe Gracia, partner of Magnus Commodities, who highlighted bonÀarea's "determination" to carry out all the internal changes.
With this milestone, the bonÀarea group becomes a pioneering agent in the participation in the Flexibility Markets. The award implies that the food group will have to reduce the demand for energy in peak hours, a fact that will generate a financial benefit of more than 1.2 MEUR this 2024. "We worked together for 6 months to do all the adjustments to the plant to make this feasible", commented bonÀarea's director of engineering and energy, Andreu Puig.
BonÀrea Corporació is one of the most important food groups in the country with a turnover that in 2023 reached 2,720 million euros.
