The Vilawatt community, in partnership with the company Biyiud, has launched a new incentive to encourage more efficient and sustainable energy consumption in Viladecans. Vilawatt has joined the EcoValors incentive program, developed by Biyiud, to reward citizens' positive environmental impact. This initiative transforms everyday sustainable practices into EcoValors points, which can be exchanged for exclusive economic benefits at dozens of sustainable food and fashion businesses across Catalonia.
Biyiud's core value lies in its EcoRating, an eco-reputational indicator that measures companies' positive impact based on their compliance with sustainability metrics (ESG) and the reduction of CO₂ emissions by employees and clients through the use of clean energy. By using advanced technologies such as Blockchain and Machine Learning, Biyiud converts citizens' CO₂ emissions reductions into EcoValor (Biyiuds) points, which companies receive as part of their talent retention and customer loyalty programs, helping to improve their EcoRating.
The results are traced to account for the decarbonization of cities, fostering collaboration and commitment among businesses and individuals towards a greener and more conscious urban model.
With this collaboration, people who have contracted their electricity supply with Vilawatt will now receive periodic benefits. Advantages can also be earned by participating in sustainable actions, such as adjusting consumption to align with the time slots when the highest levels of renewable energy are generated in Spain.
Additionally, in the upcoming edition of Vilawatt’s local currency consumption vouchers, green vouchers will be linked to EcoValors. Vilawatt Vouchers are a tool to promote local commerce, allowing residents to purchase products at half price in nearly 200 local establishments. Citizens pay 50% of the 50 euros of each voucher, while the City Council covers the remaining 50%. In 2023, a special category of green vouchers was launched, accessible only to those with a 100% green energy electricity contract or who generate their own energy through solar panels.
Vilawatt and the Viladecans City Council have also committed to promoting the initiative among local businesses in the coming months to expand the options in Viladecans for redeeming EcoValors points. This initiative raises awareness of the need and value of small everyday actions in the face of the current climate emergency.
