The facilities of the Recinto Modernista de Sant Pau have hosted the eighth edition of the Night of Efficiency, the largest event in the energy sector in Catalonia, organized by the Catalan Energy Cluster (CEEC). The event, inaugurated by Esther Izquierdo, president of the CEEC, was attended by the Hon. Mrs. Teresa Jordà, Minister of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The 2021 Efficiency Night has been organized following all safety and protection measures towards COVID-19. Attendance at the event, which in previous editions has brought together more than 500 industry professionals, has been restricted exclusively to associates and industry personalities for safety and prevention reasons.
The award in the Seed category was granted to the OXHYD project, presented by IREC, focused on the development of innovative technologies for the production and storage of green hydrogen. The proposal presents a new approach based on advanced electrochemical conversion processes, with a robust experimental design and high-level simulations aiming for a scalable and industrially viable solution.
With a clear strategy for technology transfer and a transformative vision, the proposal reflects a strong commitment to the transition towards a sustainable hydrogen economy.
Juande Sirvent, representing the project, received the award presented by the Honourable Minister of Industry and Tourism, Mr Jordi Hereu, together with Marta Fonrodona and Ramon Gallart, members of the Innovation Committee of the CEEC Board of Directors, and Íngrid Boqué, representing the Port of Barcelona.
The winner in the Product category was the PivotBuoy project, developed by the company X1 WIND. This technology represents a significant innovation in the field of floating offshore wind, featuring a unique mooring system (SPM + TLP) that considerably reduces the platform’s weight, installation costs, and environmental footprint.
PivotBuoy has demonstrated high technical performance with the X30 prototype, capable of exporting electricity stably and withstanding extreme oceanic conditions. The project has successfully completed the design, manufacturing, installation, and dismantling phases, standing out for its rigorous planning and efficient management even during the pandemic.
Carlos Casanovas, representing the project, received the award from the Honourable Minister of Industry and Tourism, Mr Jordi Hereu, together with Ms Marta Fonrodona and Mr Ramon Gallart, members of the Innovation Committee of the CEEC Board of Directors, Alberto Barriga and Martí Arribas from Schlaich Dauss.
Projects aimed at strengthening the protection of the knowledge generated and the first tests (pre-prototypes), and the definition of the marketing route, the generation of the business model, the analysis of technological and commercial viability or the design of proof of concept or other similar activities that are included within these phases.
These projects are in the “Laboratory” phase corresponding to the levels of technological maturity included in categories 5-6 of development according to the Technology readiness levels (TRL), a document included in the work program of the European Commission Horizon 2020 [Decision C (2014) 4995, of 22 July 2014.
Sara Barja, who was awared by Seed category, won the prize with the 'ECOEMS' project. ECOEMS is a energy management system that seeks to empower the consumer by encouraging self-consumption, while minimizing aspects such as the cost of the electricity bill, or CO2 emissions associated with user consumption.
Projects aimed at obtaining prototypes and the recovery and transfer of pre-commercial products and technologies and must include structured activities of a demonstration nature that allow the achievement of a proof of concept, in the form of prototypes, pilot scale, pre-industrial test, among others, and that make it possible to reduce uncertainties about the technical and commercial viability of developing technology.
These projects are in the “Mercat” phase corresponding to the levels of technological maturity included in categories 7-9 of development in accordance with the Technology readiness levels (TRL), a document included in the work programme of the European Commission Horizon 2020 [Decision C (2014) 4995, of 22 July 2014.
Cristina Corchero won the Product category thanks to her project ‘Bamboo Energy’. The project consists in a blockchain technology platform for aggregate energy demand flexibility management.
The most supportive Night of Energy Efficiency: the CEEC donates to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation
As part of the event, the Cluster has made a donation of 2,000 euros to the Fem Digital Talent project of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, a project that seeks the professional reorientation of women with disabilities towards new emerging digital occupations.
Rosa Masriera Raventós, Executive Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, stated in collecting the donation: “innovation projects must allow us to make progress in improving the lives of people without forgetting the most vulnerable, such as women with disabilities. “.
Jordi Garriga, from El Punt Avui, receives the CE21 Communication Award from the CEEC for its work to raise awareness of the importance of energy efficiency
During the Night of Efficiency, the 2021 Communication Award was presented, an award that recognizes the work of professionals and the media who raise awareness about the climate emergency and the importance of energy efficiency and renewable energies. In this edition, the award went to journalist Jordi Garriga, from El Punt Avui and L’Econòmic, a journalist specializing in energy and energy efficiency.
